“Damon Dunn will be an authentic, credible voice and passionate advocate for all Californians in the office of the Secretary of State,” said Senate Republican Leader Dennis Hollingsworth.

“Damon has the energy and vision that has been lacking in the Secretary of State’s office  for too long. Damon Dunn will return a clarity of purpose to the office of Secretary of State; this is why I am proud to endorse Damon Dunn as California¹s next Secretary of State.”

New Majority California Endorses

Damon Dunn for Secretary of State

New Majority California announces its endorsement of Damon Dunn for California Secretary of State. A successful businessman on a national scale, Dunn is focused on using his experience to revitalize California’s business environment and open it to further innovation and entrepreneurial potential.

“Damon Dunn has not only demonstrated a drive and capacity to succeed at whatever he sets his mind to, he has also garnered the experience and knowledge to become a successful Secretary of State,” said Larry Higby, chairman of New Majority California. “Damon’s ability to connect with voters is exactly what the Republican Party needs. New Majority is proud to endorse him for Secretary of State.”

Damon Dunn grew up in dire poverty, but learned early that hard work would take him far. An honor student and athlete, Dunn attended Stanford University, played in the NFL, and attended an executive education program at Harvard Business School. Dunn’s successful entrepreneurial endeavors have afforded him a national perspective on ways in which state and local governments can encourage business. He has observed that communities with a thriving business climate are able keep their people safe and provide them with the best educational opportunities. As Secretary of State, Dunn will evaluate which companies are leaving California and why, and report his findings to the Legislature as part of a package of reforms to encourage job growth.

About the New Majority and its Members

With chapters in Orange County, San Diego, Los Angeles and the Inland Empire, the membership of the New Majority consists of some of the most successful business leaders from almost every industry in the state.  The Republican organization was instrumental in passing Proposition 11 – redistricting reform in 2008 and is focused on electing a Republican Governor in 2010.

Q&A With Secretary of State Candidate Damon Dunn

San Diego News Room

February 10, 2010

DNR: What inspired you to run for this office?

Dunn: I came to Stanford as a poor kid with a good work ethic. This state made me and its payback time. I want to make sure more people are involved in the voting process. Clearly we have had an apathetic attitude in our voting base. In a special election between Chris Norby and Linda Ackerman in Orange County, only eight percent of the people showed up. There is a lack of connection between the constituents and Sacramento. I want to make sure people understand the policies that are being legislated and how they affect everyday lives. Because I know what’s it like to feel like your vote doesn’t count.

SDNR: How does California create jobs with some of the most expensive and cumbersome business regulations in the country?

Dunn: We have to change our tax policy and we have to change our regulatory policy. If we don’t make the changes nothing is going to happen, we’re going to keep losing jobs. The Delta Smelt is creating 20 to 25 percent  unemployment in the Central Valley because we don’t have access to the water it lives in, it’s regulations like that we need to change. The Democrats have not shown that they want to change tax or regulatory policies, so we have to turn to direct democracy.

SDNR: Why can’t we have a college football playoff?

Dunn: Everyone who loves sports wants a winner; we want a champion with little to no controversy. In doing that though, you extend these kids games into the next set of school work.  Do we want to see a champion so bad that we are willing to put these kids through more risks and jeopardy in order to have an undisputed winner? I think the NCAA has decided it’s not the best decision to extend the season. Winning is not the most important thing in college, getting your diploma is. We shouldn’t put winning ahead of their diploma, while exposing these kids to more risks in the form of injuries.

Statement by Governor Pete Wilson on Secretary of State Candidate Damon Dunn

SACRAMENTO – Damon Dunn, Republican candidate for Secretary of State, today announced the endorsement of Governor Pete Wilson to his growing list of California leaders that have endorsed his campaign to be California’s next Secretary of State.

“I am proud to announce my support for Damon Dunn’s candidacy for Secretary of State, said Governor Pete Wilson.  “Any Californian who has sought a better life for themselves and their family can relate to Damon’s compelling personal story and inspiring belief in service to others.  From his humble beginnings, Damon understood and realized the transformative power of hard work and service to one’s community.  Damon would go on to become an outstanding student at Stanford University, a successful small business owner, and an inspiring real American success story. Just as he made enormous contributions to impoverished, often-underserved communities and transformed people’s lives, Damon has the experience, character, and drive to reach millions of Californians who are turned off to our polarized political system.  I strongly believe that Damon Dunn is the right person to be California’s next Secretary of State.  I’m proud to support him today.

“Through his involvement with the Make-a-Wish Foundation, St. Augustine Soup Kitchen, the East Palo Alto Stanford Summer Academy, and the Latino Educational Attainment Initiative, Damon has brought meaningful, positive change in our State.  Damon’s story is one of inspiration – his community leadership, public service, and strong business background are qualities that are needed in our state today.”

Dear friends,

We will be in Washington DC from Tuesday February 2nd thru Friday February 5th at the President’s National Prayer Breakfast. On Thursday, February 4th, representatives from over 160 nations gather for breakfast in DC to have breakfast with the President of the USA and to hear a renowned speaker share his/her faith in Jesus. This year is only the 2nd time people are able to view this breakfast on your TV live or watch it later. Check out the attachment for how to do this.

We are excited to see what is in store for us as we gather with people from every kind of cultural background imaginable. The Breakfast itself is quite a treat with participation of our Heads of State reading the Scriptures, praying and sharing their relationship with Jesus. The President speaks and there is always a surprise keynote speaker who will open up and share their personal journey of faith. Support Damon’s Journey Today!

Dear Supporter-

Every January we start the year with high hopes and aspirations for what the upcoming year will hold. Many people set resolutions and start new journeys in the hope that by the end of the year they will have improved various parts of their lives. Our campaign is no different; we have set goals and expectations for the upcoming year and are excited about the journey we have begun to get Damon elected to be California’s next Secretary of State.

Another journey that I wanted to share with you took Damon to the Bay Area where he spoke during Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Weekend to Pilgrim Baptist Church. His message was simple: “Release Your Dreams.” He urged the congregation to work to achieve on these journeys. The message was well received and set the stage for the momentum that is building in favor of Damon’s candidacy.

I would like to urge you to take a few moments to watch the powerful message Damon shared in the Bay Area. You can view this message at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLOzZSuj0Kg.  I would also like to ask you to forward the message on to your friends, colleagues, and anyone else you can think of! Please ask them to take a few moments to watch the video but also to sign up on Damon’s website (http://www.DamonDunn.com) to receive campaign updates.

Thank you for your continued support! Onward to Victory!

California Now Known For Budget Meltdown

Capitol Weekly

By: Damon Dunn

January 28, 2010

Around the world, California is world-renowned for our weather, pristine beaches, diversity, and famous attractions from Lake Shasta and San Francisco down to Los Angeles and San Diego.  More recently, though, we’ve added another distinction to our state: historic, crushing deficits, the highest business and gas taxes in the nation, a state legislature bent on borrowing to pay for borrowed money, and a partisan gridlock unmatched anywhere in the country.

With the way our legislative districts are currently drawn, each side of the political aisle can be as stubbornly partisan and uncompromising without any fear of losing the next election.  The partisans respond to special interests, not voters, and become out-of-touch with the needs of their district and constituents.

After decades of having political parties, politicians, and their high priced consultants dictate which voters they wanted to represent, California voters took control and approved a measure to dramatically alter the way in which legislative and Board of Equalization representation would be carried out in the future.  This important vote gave life to the Citizens Redistricting Commission, an independent commission made up of five Democrats, five Republicans and four nonpartisan or minority-party members, that would be charged with drawing district boundaries for the state Senate, Assembly, and Board of Equalization.

Giving power back to the people can only be accomplished if all citizens participate and ensure that politicians are held accountable- those who draw the lines get to ensure that the districts are fair and that future elections are competitive, demanding responsiveness from our elected officials and cementing accountability in the process.

The commissioners would be in charge of hiring technical staff, conducting hearings, evaluating data, and voting on final legislative maps.

The application process ends February 12, 2010.

For more information, membership requirements and to apply to the commission, visit www.WeDrawTheLines.ca.gov, or call (866) 356-5217.  You can also follow the process on Twitter at @WeDrawTheLines and tag related tweets with #WeDrawTheLines.

Updated Citizens Redistricting Commission application data is available to the public at https://application.wedrawthelines.ca.gov/statistics.
